Heading uphill on the Lakes Basin Path, between the Twin Lakes tunnel and Mammoth Lakes Pack Outfit, you'll find a welcome resting spot with a spectacular overlook. Across Twin Lakes looms the southern flank of Mammoth Mountain, Dragon's Back and the so-called “Hole in the Wall,” a natural volcanic lava tube that is, in winter, when snow conditions are just right, a popular descent for expert skiers and snowboarders.
